Local action on renewables is crucial for meeting national targets
It is the local level that must now plan for their own energy sources. National governments have strongly influenced energy systems over time, through focusing resources upon large, centralized, and carbon intensive projects. National governments are now faced with the challenge of developing a low carbon, sustainable energy system, an energy system that is inherently decentralized. It is this decentralized nature of a sustainable energy system that requires national governments to involve and support local governments in their activities in developing sustainable energy initiatives. Only in this way can national governments meet their carbon reduction targets.
